GOLF: Thought of the Month - COMPETE!

When I was growing up, I had a Great Coach

She made a lasting impact on my game and my life. She would always tell me, “don’t play golf swing on the course, play golf." At the time I was working on my swing and was worried about how I was going to play in the next tournament.  She was saying that even though I was making my swing better for the future, I still had to figure out how to get the ball in the hole with whatever skills or shot I had that day…and if I focused too much on making the perfect swing, I’d lose sight of the strategy needed to get the ball in the hole with the shots I DID have available to me at that moment.

“Knowing what YOU have that day” minimizes forced errors… decreasing scores and increasing FUN!

Which brings me to her second best piece of advice:  “It’s not how, it’s how many.”   Make a strategy based on how you are playing that day.  You can play a pretty ugly, unorthodox game of golf and still shoot a decent score.  Instead of trying to play perfect golf, seek the challenge of how to get the ball in the hole by playing to your reliable shots – as crazy as they may be.  Then, after the round is over, resume focusing on improving the areas of your game that will help you get to the next level.
